"A Cup of Consonances. Approaching Rozanova" focuses on the legacy of the avant-garde artist Olga Rozanova paired with the female art of several generations. The curatorial strategy creates an effect of echoes and reflections, showing the refraction of Rozanova's impulses in the works of contemporary and Soviet informal artists.
Over the eight years of her career, Olga Rozanova performed as a canonical portrait and landscape painter, a cubo-futurist, and an illustrator of avant-garde poetry. The artist explored Suprematist concepts at the same time as Kasimir Malevich and radicalised them in her unique method of light painting.
Rozanova's artistic journey is presented in four themed areas, with the exhibition design centred around the idea of consonance. The architecture of the show carefully uses large volumes and hides them behind mirrored surfaces. The result is an airy and fluid space devoid of rigid navigation — every path offers visitors a reflection of Rozanova's collection in recent female art.
The show's colour scheme is based on Rozanova's manifestos on light and colour. According to the artist, every colour is truly revealed on a flat surface, whereas any texture or volume distorts it through perspective. To develop this concept, the exhibition walls are painted in bright colours and mirrored at the ends to create a sense of flatness and two-dimensionality.
